Last week on June 2nd, Kanon Wakeshima made the announcement on social media that she has left her firm (Sony Music Publishing) and will be moving to London in the fall of 2019. She will stay there for a year and a half. She explains that this is a great chance to work with others and improve her songwriting skills. She has mentioned that she'll still be working with Sony Music Publishing on writing lyrics for other songs.
We have translated the announcement in a series of tweets:
I already told you this in the live, but (i'll say it again) I will leave my firm and be a free artist. Then I plan to live in london from this autumn for about 1 year and a half.

Music and art, I think it will be great if the experience will become my grain in the future! I will stay in Japan for a while, so i'm thinking about making something during this time. https://t.co/PsLpixIoMw

No matter where I am, I can still make music and art. I hope people who wants to work with me, can still contact me and no need to be overly concerned. Please keep supporting me as always. https://t.co/tljaP6sAZy

Thanks for so many fan letters💌 When I found out there're some fans who already knew about this announcement, I felt a little shocked.

I experienced inaccurate information being spread about so I have nothing to do with it. But I want to say it from my own mouth, I hope everyone can only believe my words. https://t.co/106Cg0OyfP

These things keep changing and big chances are what I need. I just do this in timing of my 11th year. It’s not a termination, because i can’t live without performance. By the way it’s working holiday, not visa for study abroad, so I can work there~ i’m looking for a job lol. https://t.co/jeb3zXeZhh

I will still be with my firm as a writer. As a songwriter or a lyricist, I’m still not enough, so I’m thinking about accumulating more experience. https://t.co/y9zigwVCtU

Some fans have found out about the announcement prior via private messsaging in social media. Regardless, it has now been made official and we can say that Kanon Wakeshima has become an independent artist.
With that said, what will this mean for new content? We will likely see something new before she leaves Japan. As for during her stay in London, we will not hear much from her as an artist, but it is likely that she will collaborate with other musicians, singers, and composers as she continues to improve her abilities.
So, what does this mean for Kanon Channel? Of course, we will still continue to provide updates for everyone, be it tweets from Kanon, translated interviews, and other tidbits we have planned. While not much will appear in terms of newer content, we will still have something for everyone in the remainer of 2019 and into 2020. Stay tuned for that soon.
We wish her the best in her endevors and hope to witness a new Kanon Wakeshima in 2021!
