Kanon Wakeshima to Move to London!

Last week on June 2nd, Kanon Wakeshima made the announcement on social media that she has left her firm (Sony Music Publishing) and will be moving to London in the fall of 2019. She will stay there for a year and a half. She explains that this is a great chance to work with others and improve her songwriting skills. She has mentioned that she'll still be working with Sony Music Publishing on writing lyrics for other songs.

We have translated the announcement in a series of tweets:

Some fans have found out about the announcement prior via private messsaging in social media. Regardless, it has now been made official and we can say that Kanon Wakeshima has become an independent artist.

With that said, what will this mean for new content? We will likely see something new before she leaves Japan. As for during her stay in London, we will not hear much from her as an artist, but it is likely that she will collaborate with other musicians, singers, and composers as she continues to improve her abilities.

So, what does this mean for Kanon Channel? Of course, we will still continue to provide updates for everyone, be it tweets from Kanon, translated interviews, and other tidbits we have planned. While not much will appear in terms of newer content, we will still have something for everyone in the remainer of 2019 and into 2020. Stay tuned for that soon.

We wish her the best in her endevors and hope to witness a new Kanon Wakeshima in 2021!

DECADE Launch Recap

On February 13th 2019, a best album from Kanon Wakeshima was released. Titled “DECADE”, this is her first best album that contains her hit songs along with a couple new songs made for this release. Fans from all over Japan have posted pictures and shared their congratuations for reaching this milestone in her music career. The reason for why we haven’t had a chance to update the website when DECADE came out, was because a lot of news, photos, interviews, and more came at a very fast pace.

Before we get to this recap, this is a good time to remind our readers and fans that if you want real-time news and other info as they come, you should consider following our social media for the latest in Kanon Wakeshima. OUR DECADE - A Fanmail Campaign

kanonfanmaillogo.png

For 10 years, overseas fans have supported Kanon Wakeshima for various reasons. From her debut of “still doll” leading up to her first best album DECADE, fans have come, have gone, and some fans, like us, have come back. Despite the changes and challenges during this path, Kanon Wakeshima have always poured her heart out and gave her best performance for us. Now as fans, it’s time to return the favor.

Kanon Channel will be starting a fan-mail campaign for the overseas fans. Titled “OUR DECADE”, this is for the fans who have supported her since 2008; for the fans who have supported her recently; for the fans who has come back to see her improve. No matter what kind of a fan you are, we want your help and support.

How will this work? Are you crazy?!

You can call us crazy if you want, but we want this campaign to represent the overseas community. For most people not from Japan, it’s been difficult for us to show and appreciate Kanon Wakeshima. However, we think we have a solution to this issue. We will send a package of fan-mail along with the fanzine THANATOS: The Girl in the Black Dress to her. This package will include your letter to Kanon Wakeshima. We want her to have a lot of letters to show her our love and support. It is because of fans’ support that Kanon is able to continue pursuing her music career.

Great, how do I sign up and what do I write?

It’s simple. Write a short letter (no more than one page) handwritten or typed (though we do prefer handwritten, it’s not a requirement) supporting Kanon Wakeshima. That said, there are a few things we need to explain as far as what is considered acceptable for a letter.

Please do not do the following:

  • Attack, abuse, or defame Kanon Wakeshima.

  • Ask for business opportunities.

  • Discriminate Kanon Wakeshima.

  • Write racial slurs.

  • Write anything inappropriate.

We feel that this is common sense, but we have seen too many times where people abuse this when joining a campaign like this. As a result, we will be reading every letter before sending them to her. If they are considered unacceptable, we will reject them. No exceptions.

Please do any of the following instead:

  • Write about your first experience with her music.

  • Write about how her music has saved you.

  • Write about a past concert or event where you have seen her.

  • Write about how her music have shaped your life.

  • Write about how you will continue to support her and her music.

  • Write about your favorite songs that mean the most to you.

These are just a few ideas, but you should understand what we’re aiming for. If you come up with other ideas for a letter that we didn’t mention, and it is still acceptable to write, go for it. If you’re also an artist, we encourage providing a sketch as part of your letter. If you want to submit a picture in addition to your letter, we recommend a picture of yourself holding some sort of Kanon Wakeshima merch or album.

Once you have your letter ready, please send them to the following address:

KANON CHANNEL

P.O. BOX 1415

Sumner, WA 98390-1234

USA

UPDATE: If shipping costs prohibit you from sending the letter to the US, we will accept letters sent electronically (scanned or typed), and we will print and send it that way. If this is your situation, send the letter to 87kanonchannel (at) gmail (dot) com.

The deadline for submission is until May 31st, 2019.

We plan to send this package close to Kanon Wakeshima’s birthday on June 28th. We look forward to seeing what the community can do!
